Chickenshed

Chickenshed is your local theatre – and so much more besides! We have been making entertaining and outstanding theatre for over 40 years, and our inclusive creative process is renowned nationally and internationally. Our purpose-built theatre spaces play host to a huge range of productions and activities across the whole year, offering a welcoming, creative hub to a community of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We create in-house productions that take place on our main stage, the Rayne Theatre, present regular interactive shows for very young children, new and smaller scale work for adults and families in our intimate Studio Theatre and have a busy programme of live music and comedy events in the Bar. But that’s not all - we run weekly sessions for our Children’s and Youth Theatre members, Saturday and holiday activity workshops for 5-12s, with performance and singing workshops for adults too. Chickenshed also offers a unique opportunity to learn and perform in a working theatre. We offer three nationally accr ed education courses at Foundation Degree, BTEC and BA level - and are rated 'Outstanding' by OFSTED. And if all that wasn’t enough, we have Brothers Grill at the heart of our building, a wonderful café bar/restaurant which is perfect for a morning coffee, a light lunch or an evening meal, and who can host meetings, parties or celebration events in any of our many spaces! Check out our website for more details, and see what Chickenshed could be for you... And don’t forget, as a registered charity there are always ways that you can get involved in supporting our pioneering work. From volunteering front of house, behind the scenes or as part of our general or administrative team, to taking part in challenge events or partnering us through your business or organisation you could be a part of creating a society which enables every individual to flourish.

5Star review I have taken my little boy (4 months) to planet play and tales from the shed. I couldn’t recommend it enough. Not only is it totally inclusive the staff there are fantastic and interact with the children. Will be taking him to Christmas tales this year also.

Chickenshed 5Star review Every year I go to see the Christmas show at chickenshed, it never disappoints! This year is A Christmas Carol, it was amazing! The kids and adults that perform are incredible. Go and see the shows that they put on you'll love it.

Planet play 5Star review Today we attended a planet play session with our 10 month old and 2 year old- we had a wonderful time. The adults leading the sessions were engaging and made this time magical. We have booked to go again! I also took them to baby broadway a few weeks ago and have to say on both visits how lovely it is that the volunteers are there to help and come round to talk to- such a wonderful local theatre!

5Star review Just came back from an amazing performance of Repunzel at the Chicken Shed Theatre. How beautiful it was to see such a diversity of children involved in the performance. Each child seemed to enjoy themselves so much and it seemed so magical. And to have the additional performers signing too was lovely. And even in the interval the performers were out interacting with the children in the audience. Credit to the Chicken Shed and the performers.

Chicken Shed - Planet Play 5Star review My family and I have been coming to Chicken Shed for many years and I am always amazed by quite how wonderful it is. Despite huge cut backs in the Arts sector its work remains focused, relevant and inclusive. We are so, so lucky to have this on our doorstep. Today myself and my 1 year old son went to their show for 0-3 year olds. It was their first show and what I loved was just how child-centred and considered all the performers were, they really want to know what makes the kids 'tick' and are so enthusiastic. Honestly a very special place, thank you x
